Tunisia- where the Arab Spring has not yet turned to winter

My new piece for RT.com OpEdge.

It’s just past ten in the morning and the temperature in Tunis is already in the mid-thirties. Usually the cafes in the Tunisian capital would be full of people, but it’s the start of Ramadan and most of them are closed...

You can read the whole of my piece on developments in Tunisia, here

Hi neil, it has been a long time since I checked in here.

Nice piece and I hope you and your wife enjoyed Tunisia, it really is a lovely country. It was the first place I visited where I really got a feel of how limits on freedom of expression can manifest themselves. Sitting in cafés in Tunis a few questions I considered entirely non controversial, led to awkward silence, a quick shifting of topics or very obvious party line answers.

Still I was met with nothing but a huge welcome all over the country and it is good to read that it has fared better than others in the region.

Hi Ian,
Great to hear from you and thanks for checking in again!
Thanks - pleased you like the piece. Tunisia is a great place, really hope that soon the democratic advances since 2011 are matched with economic advances for the majority.
