Blowback time for US: why death and destruction are the only outcomes of NATO interventions

Above you can watch an interview with me on RT, on the Libya consulate killings and the wave of violence sweeping the Middle East.

Hello Mr. Clark,

Great interview. For years the U.S. and its allies have opposed populist nationalists and socialists in the Middle East, and now the fruits of that opposition can clearly be seen as violent Islamism is likely the only alternative popular movement in the region. You reap what you sow indeed.

Neil Clark said...

Cheers, John. Many thanks.
The US has sided with radical Islamic groups to help undermine/topple popular nationalist/socialist movements in the M/E and now its blowback time.
Of course they sided with Islamic groups in the Balkans too to help destroy Yugoslavia.

FYI on Stevens and dead seals

willyloman, on September 14, 2012 at 9:52 am said:
I think you are right on it. Stevens wasn’t even supposed to be in the country. He was on a tour to Germany and other places and was diverted to Benghazi at the last minute. I wonder if that happened in that 48 hour period when the state department knew of the pending unrest. and yes, it is not the official embassy, it’s the consulate I think.

Unconfirmed reports are that Stevens went to the Benghazi consulate under attack, believing he had some leverage with the terrorists and would be able to secure the safety of the staff, making him a martyred hero. We’ll see it that story gains any traction.
Also, breaking news is that the other two killed were former SEALS, adding to the story that SEALS are always heroes.

Glen Doherty and Tyrone Woods (last to have name released), both former Navy Seals.

smith’s gaming is an interesting story. He played Eve which is a massive multiplayer online role playing game. it’s huge. over 5,000 solar systems and 400,000 registered players. the server systems are massive. Basically what you have is an alternative universe and the players are trying to ammase wealth and power, literally any way they can. there are alliances, corporations, factions. Lots of people committing thousands hours playing this game.
Smith apparently was a leading figure in one of the factions. They staged some kind of coup in which he was supposedly betrayed by someone in his faction and he and another teammate ended up going over to their competition. He supposedly stayed there in that faction for about a year, slowly building up invluence and access to the details of that faction’s “wealth” and systems.
In the end, once he had enough access, he sabotaged the faction that had taken him in for a year and went back over to his original group leaving the rival faction in tatters.
He was a legend after that for effectively pulling off a cognitive infiltration of the rival group and then betraying them. It took him a year of game play to pull it off.
Gamers who don’t play the game and many who did at one time say the game is THE GAME for sociopaths. I don’t really know bout that since I haven’t played it, but I can tell you after looking at it briefly, it does take quite a bit of intelligence to play the game so I would imagine that it is popular among the banker and Wall Street looter element.

this is what Amnasty has helped bring into being:

'In a letter distributed by the Christian Aid Mission (CAM), a Christian Egyptian missionary wrote that Morsi’s Muslim Brotherhood “announced they would destroy the country if Morsi didn’t win, but they also said they will take revenge from all those who voted for [his opponent Ahmed] Shafiq, especially the Christians as they are sure we did vote for Shafiq. Yesterday they began by killing two believers in el Sharqiya because of this,” the missionary added, speaking on condition of anonymity.[20]
This report came only weeks after Egyptian State TV (under Morsi’s control) showed ghastly video footage of a convert from Islam to Christianity being murdered by Muslims. The footage showed a young man being held down by masked men with a knife to his throat. As one man was heard chanting Muslim prayers in Arabic, mostly condemning Christianity, another man holding the knife to the Christian convert’s throat began to cut, slowly severing the head amid cries of “Allahu Akbar” (“Allah is great”), according to transcripts. In the letter, the Egyptian missionary leader added that, “soon after Morsi won, Christians in upper Egypt were forcibly prevented from going to churches.” Many Muslims, the letter claimed, “also began to speak to women in the streets that they had to wear Islamic clothing including the head covering. They act as if they got the country for their own, it’s theirs now.” [21]'

the so called 'arab spring' ended up replacing secular states in tunisia and egypt and now libya with this...Syria is next on the list of secular states to be turned into fundamentalist hells....any chance the masses let alone amnastys executive will wake up?

Hi Brian,
Many thanks for comments and links.

Sooner or later the West is going to snap out of its neocon fantasy and see just what it has helped to bring about in Egypt.

I tell you, Neil, it's likely that there will be nothing but increasing troubles now.

Anonymous said...

Really Neil? "Thanks for the comments and links?"

Some spammed hearsay about dead US servicemen? Really I'm trying to work out what is in the least bit relevant in knowing about his supposed habits in a role playing game?

Is it just that Brain accounts for 80% of your comments that you won't ask him to stop spamming your blog with anything he finds on the internet?

If you don't like Brian you don't have to come here 'anonymous'- plenty of neocon sites for you to read!

Ian aka anonymous@11:11 said...

Neil, It isn't that I am a massive neo-con that dislikes Brain's posts.
It is that your reasonable points are being massively undermined by being associated with this conspiricist rubbish. Brain very occasionally turns up something reasonable in the conversation (about 1 post in 12 from what I have seen), however you have to ask yourself are things people say on blogs (I know the irony) or a facebook comment really valid evidence when investigating these matters.

When you are presenting your case would you ever turn around to the correspondent on RT and say;
"Well some guy told me on the internet that someone who was killed was a really hardcore player of the EVE Role Playing Game... now if that doesn't undermine US foreign policy nothing will"
No, you wouldn't and you know the reason why, because it is guff!

When people come to your blog, your rather valid anti-interventionist views are being linked in with a fringe who will tie anything and everything in with a some style of conspiracy. The reason I called you up on it is because it makes you exceptionally easy to dismiss as a valid critic of Western foreign policy and there are plenty of crap bloggers who already fulfil that role, please don't become another one of them.

Neil Clark said...

Hi Ian, no need to go under 'anonymous' you're always welcome here. just because i say 'thanks for the links' to a valued and regular poster doesn't mean that i endorse every point of view in every one of the links. if you posted links to some articles you thought would be of interest, i'd say thanks to you as well, even though i might not agree with the subject content in the articles, or endorse the views. i don't think you could say i'm impolite to anyone who comments here regularly.

hello anonymous
glad my comments have elicited a reaction...what ive posted is just a drop in an ocean of what you wont see on CNNBCABCBBC, but can be found on alternative sites and blogs like this one performing the thankless and unpaid task of doing what the professional(read: PAID) MSM SHOULD be doing...
Why are you here if not to read what you cant read there?

Did this Ian guy really write that? Firstly i doubt youve gone thru al my comments read them digested them and worked out which are valid by your own shady criteria. So you first statement is a fraud.

2ndly...you need to ask yourself .as to which is more valid blogs or the Mainstream media?...
Guess what...the MSM is in decline... blogs are on the increase http://www.guardian.co.uk/media/2012/jun/10/washington-post-paid-price-not-having-paywall

the NYTs Judith Miller Office of Special Plans WMD big liess showed some of us just how the best media cant be trusted...blogs cant be either...but they allow a wider selection of news and opinion...

Are what i post valid? well aside from your snarky remarks, youve offered zero evidence they are not....so let me challenge you to rebjut what ive posted on this page...lets see if my batting rate is 1/12, or is yours 1/12

Conspiracies happen they have thru out history and are happening as we wrangle. Then you use the word' valid'...who are you to say whats valid? Esp as youve not proven my 11 of 12 comments are invalid.

this is your worst:
'it makes you exceptionally easy to dismiss as a valid critic'

by whom? You? or are you now the voice of the multitude?

Rebut what i post, if you cant.....

Neil Clark said...

Ian: you have to concede that the biggest 'conspiracist rubbish' of the modern era, and by far the most deadly conspiracy theory, is the one that Iraq had WMD in 2003. That conspiracy theory was peddled by the MSM, and in particular the Murdoch-owned media. And the biggest 'conspiracist rubbish' today is the story that Iran is developing nuclear weapons which will threaten the entire world. And once again its'respectable' publications which are peddling the rubbish.
But of course when the neocon/neoliberal 'elite' write about 'conspiracy theories' they just home in on obscure bloggers whose theories did not lead to the death of 1m people.

an eg of why the most elites MS media cant be trusted:

Turkish people say NO TO WAR...lets see how 'democratic' Turkey really is!
In a rally which was called 'NO TO WAR', Thousands of Turks in Ankara and Istanbul have demonstrated against Erdogan Government's Policies, which is increasing tension in the region and thus threatening security in implementation of western agendas that do not serve the interests of the Turkish people."
In Istanbul city, thousands crowded in the main Taksim Square in response to calls by a number of left-wing parties raising a large banner with "No to War" written on it, accusing Erdogan government of exploiting the accident on borders with Syria to mobilize the public opinion to support its anti-peace policies.
The protestors chanted slogans condemning the US and its support to terrorism in the region, stressing that the AKP is dragging Turkey into an imperialist war by proxy under Washington's instruction.
In Ankara, hundreds of citizens gathered in front of the Parliament building denouncing the current government's subjugation to the western policies and being a tool in the aggression on the peoples of the region in contradiction with the Turkish interests.
The Turkish citizens stressed their keenness on preserving best relations with the Syrian people, reiterating rejection of turning their country into a base for terrorists who commit murder acts in Syria.
Amid the chanting, members of the Turkish police tried to separate the protestors by force through beating them and firing tear gas at them.
Deputy Leader of the Republican People's Party, Muharrem Ince, said Erdogn's government has shown no reaction or moved a finger when Israel killed 9 Turkish citizens on board the Gaza-bound Mavi Marmara ship. "Our stance is clear. We don't want war against anyone and we don't want to be a tool in the hands of anyone," he stressed.

Hi Brian,
yes, can you imagine the furore if a Syrian minister advocated the assassination of UK/Aus/US Ministers. The double standards are glaring.

re Turkey- yes, Erdogan has v.little public support for his aggressive stance.

this is amazing and criminal on the part of the turkish state...further proof the real villains are the turks,,,not syria:

Passengers onboard the plane intercepted by Turkish jets said that security forces were making the crew and passengers sign fraudulent papers suggesting that the plane made an emergency landing and no Turkish military were involved in the incident.
Hours after Turkish authorities announced that the Syrian Airlines passenger plane intercepted by its F-16s was granted a departure clearance, the aircraft remained on the tarmac in darkness.
“Four people onboard have been beaten up, two crew and two passengers, as they tried to force them to sign documents,” Sherin Azis, a hostess on the plane, told RT by phone. “We don’t know what these papers are about. We are scared for the fate of the captain. He was taken away and threatened with arrest if he does not sign an emergency landing paper.”
Fatima al-Saman, a passenger and a mother of three, also told RT that the captain was being forced to sign a release stating that military planes were not involved and the plane just made an emergency landing.
“If we do not agree to these terms, they will take the captain kind of hostage,” al-Saman said. “They are threatening us. The captain has now returned and said that ‘either I sign the document that I made an emergency landing or they are taking me hostage.’”
The plane has been surrounded by people in masks who have detained all the cargo and were looking through what looked like boxes with documents, passengers said. The Turkish authorities were interested in some spare parts, which a businessman bought in Russia and was transporting to Syria, al-Saman said. She said that as far as she could tell, they were clearly not weapons.
“They started unloading some packages. They opened them, took pictures. There were many people. We all saw what was in there. There were no weapons. You could see it with an untrained eye!” she said. “They just had some spare parts and papers – objects, but there were no rockets. It is all a lie.”
The captain himself did not even know why the plane was ordered down, al-Saman said. She added that the search involved only luggage, and the passengers were mainly ignored.
“Everyone is ignoring us, making it seem like we do not exist,” she said. “The Russian Consulate did not get back to us. A lady has called one of the passengers and told her that the [embassy staff] are not being allowed to enter the airport territory. They have led us out of the plane where we kept asking for help, but everyone seems to ignore us.”
‘Close to disaster’
Following the incident Syrian Airlines accused the Turkish authorities of assaulting the airplane staff.
“The crew was subjected to aggressive behavior on the part of the Turkish authorities,” said airline director Ghaida Abd Al-Latif. She said that the Turkish began to get aggressive when the crew refused to sign the papers stating that the plane made an emergency landing.
Al-Latif said that the Turkish jets intercepted the passenger plane in the air without any prior warning and flew so close by that a real “disaster could have happened.”
