The Empire Strikes Back: Julian Assange arrested and refused bail

Read all about it here.

And how bail has been refused here.

U.S. Defence Secretary Robert Gates has hailed the arrest as 'good news'.

Well, he would, wouldn't he?

PS Bravo for Ken Loach, John Pilger and Jemima Khan for offering to put up the bail money.

Cablegate was no accident or State Department gaffe. It is a ploy to set the stage for war against Iran. In essence, it is no different from the Bosnian Muslim killing their own civilians so NATO will fight the Serbs, Rajack, or the Iraqi defector who spoke of Saddam's WMD program. There is just enough drama behind Cablegate- Mr. Assange's story and the lowly PFC who first downloaded the cables- and incriminating information to make to make the entire thing seem credible and very interesting. But look at the big picture; it is just way too self-serving to be authentic.

Yes, this is quite mad. If this were a Hollywood spy thriller, with all the global elites as part of the action, it would be laughed off as unrealistic.

Hi Neil,

Is there a campaign/petition or any other activities that can be supported regarding his arrest?

Best wishes

Yes indeed, Jean Baudrillard once said that late modernity is turning out like the script for a very bad sci-fi movie. A very bad spy movie would have been more accurate.
